Another Comic Character Gets Cast in AMC’s The Walking Dead

This is The Walking Dead Monday, first Robert Kirkman along with AMC officially announced a Spin-off of the series, which will focus on an entirely new story with unique characters, not from the comic book. Kirkman has already expanded his creation to video games, toys and more.

Now “AMC announced today that the network is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to its original drama series The Walking Dead, which premiered on AMC in October of 2010. The Walking Dead is currently the #1 show on television among adults 18-49. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are on board as executive producers, with AMC Studios set to produce. The companion series has a target on-air date of 2015.”

Kirkman said that “after 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. (…) The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

Christian Serratos will play Rosita Espinosa

Now here is the second best part of this Walking-Dead-Monday, Christian Serratos (Twilight) has joined the cast of the AMC’s series as Rosita Espinosa, character from the comic book that first appeared on issue #53 to the present #114. For comic book fans this means that Rick’s group meets with Rosita Espinosa who is part of the… *Minor Spoilers Ahead* group of Abraham Ford and Eugene who join Rick and travel to Washington.

Deadline revealed that Rosita is a recurring character in Season 4, with the possibility of becoming a Season 5 regular. Let’s not forget that the TV show does differ quite a bit from the comic book series, so we might get to see another fan favorite, Abraham and Eugene.

The appearance of Rosita could mean the we’ll see Rick’s group once again on the road by the end of Season 4.

Christian Serratos was born and raised in Southern California

The Walking Dead Season 4 begins on October 13th.

Jon Bernthal Will be Robert De Niro’s Son in Grudge Match

Jon Bernthal‘s character on AMC’s The Walking Dead may be dead, or returning as a memory, however the actor recently got swamped with new projects. Bernthal’s portrayal of Shane Walsh caught the attention of many important directors and performers. In addition to having the leading role in a new TNT TV show ‘L.A. Noir‘ directed by Frank Darabont (The Mist, The Walking Dead).

The actor is set to appear in The Wolf on Wall Street directed by Martin Scorsese which is expected to arrive in theaters next year. Bernthal is also credited for a part in Summit’s upcoming film SNITCH with Dwayne Johnson. Recently the zombie-slayer actor has another interesting role lined up, he will be playing the son of Robert De Niro‘s character in Grudge Match.

Grudge Match is a film  directed by Peter Segal (Get Smart), which stars Robert De Niro , 69, and Sylvester Stallone as two retired fighters who get back into the ring for one last match to settle an old score. The very idea of seeing the Raging Bull exchanging blows with the Rocky star spells great potential. It will be interesting to see what kind of shape both men are in when they step into the ring. Stallone, 66, has already changed his physique in Expendables 1 and 2.

It appears that Bernthal’s character will bring an additional dose of tension. Variety reports that the Walking Dead star has already signed on to play De Niro’s son, “who is conflicted about training the estranged father he has resented for years.” In addition to De Niro and Stallone, Kim Basinger is also a member of this amazing cast of actors.

Dwayne Johnson Twitts New Poster of SNITCH

Today Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, showed through his Twitter account the new poster of his latest film SNITCH. The film will be in theaters on February 22, 2013.

The movie poster comes with the slogan “How far would you go to save your son?” the former wrestler stated he was honored to work in this film based on a true story. However SNITCH promises a lot more than just stunts, which are the main attraction. In the trailer there’s a glimps of 18-wheeler and the good old hand-to-hand action (that many of us enjoy).

SNITCH stars Dwayne Johnson (Scorpion King), Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), Susan Sarandon (Alfie), Benjamin Bratt (Private Practice), Harold Perrineau (Lost), among others. The movie is being directed by Ric Roman Waugh, you’ll probably remember his work from the scifi hit Total Recall back in 1990.

On the other hand, Johnson, a former WWF wrestler, has emerged as a truly charismatic and aggresive leading man, who by now has shown some real range of performances.

The Walking Dead Season Four Gets Renewed Without Glen Mazzara

There was no doubt that AMC would renew The Walking Dead for a fourth season, after a record-breaking first half of the third season. However many were surprised that the fourth season The Walking Dead will be without the showrunner and Executive Producer Glen Mazzara, this was one of the reasons the announcement wasn’t made sooner. Mazzara will step down after Season 3 concludes.

This is the official announcement made by AMC of the fourth season of The Walking Dead.

AMC also jointly announces with Glen Mazzara today that for future seasons, the two parties have mutually decided to part ways. Glen guided the series creatively for seasons 2 and 3.  AMC is grateful for his hard work. We are both proud of our shared success.

Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways.  This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer.

This is what Glen Mazzara officialy said regarding the announcement:

“My time as showrunner on The Walking Dead has been an amazing experience, but after I finish season 3, it’s time to move on.  I have told the stories I wanted to tell and connected with our fans on a level that I never imagined. It doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey.”

According to Bernthal watching the show, where he played deputy Shane Walsh, gives him a moment of down-time for him, who these days is juggling his time with TNT’s television series “L.A. Noir” directed by Frank Darabont (The Mist), the man responsible for the first season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”.

The famous actor is also filming of “The Wolf of Wall Street,” a Martin Scorsese film about Wall Street corruption, also starring Jonah Hill (21 Jump Street), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) and Matthew McConaughey (Reign of Fire).

Bernthal sadi to The Associated Press he’s trilled to be working with Scorsese.

He’s always been one of my favorite filmmakers, the guy I’ve always dreamed of working with,” he said. “It’s a really cool cast and based on a true story, so it’s been a really exciting project.”

Bernthal has also finished filming, “Snitch,” which will be released in theaters in February 2013. The movie, stars Dwayne Johnson, as a father who goes undercover for the DEA when his son is imprisoned after being set up in a drug deal.

The really great news of Benthal is the February arrival of the newest member of his family. He and his wife, Erin Angle, are expecting their second child. While Bernthal says he’d like to find out the sex of the baby-on-the-way, his wife wants to be surprised.

She calls the shots in that department, so we won’t be finding out until February,” he said with a laugh. The couple has a son, Henry, who is 15 months old.

Currently Jon Bernthal is heading to New Orleans this weekend to greet fans of “The Walking Dead” at the Wizard World Comic Con conference. His character Shane Walsh went mad and was killed last season, returned as a zombie and was killed again.

I’m very much still watching it,” he said. “I’m still a fan.”

Jon Bernthal as Shane Walsh in episode 12 ‘Better Angels’

Andrew Lincoln recently talked about having Jon around in the mid-season finale episode, where he appears as Rick’s hallucination of Shane. “He’s my brother and it was so strange seeing him there — and yet, so familiar. And it was very moving. He came back and was on his way to doing the Scorsese movie [The Wolf of Wall Street]. I could see him and he was being very respectful and standing back and letting us do our thing and not interfering and just watching. And I could see him itching to go so I said, “Jon, I need to run lines for this.” And he came on set and he wasn’t supposed to be working that night but suddenly he just said, “Right. I’m just coming. I’m coming back. I can’t not work.” So he got changed and we started acting the scene. He was only supposed to shoot the day afterwards.

With a laugh Lincoln said, “Only in my job can I keep killing my friend. This is the third time I’ve killed Jon. Well, it’s actually the second time, but I like to think of the other one as a family killing, via my son. Only in this crazy job can I still keep bringing people back form the dead in my imagination — and shoot them again.”

First Footage of Chad Coleman as Tyreese in The Walking Dead

A few days ago, we reported that Tyreese was joining The Walking Dead Seasons 3, here’s the first footage of Chad Coleman (The Wire) as the hammer-wielding zombie slayer Tyreese.

*Spoiler Warning: Do not continue reading if you want to avoid TV/comic book spoilers*

When the TV show was first announced, fans of the comic book series have been eager to see Tyreese in the small screen. In the comic he joins Rick’s group before the events of the prison. In the series the character has yet to made his debut, he will appear on the next episode, which is the mid-season-finale. So instead of meeting up before the prison, Tyreese and his group seem to have found the prison on their own.

Chad Coleman from The Wire was confirmed for the role of Tyreese , but we don’t have confirmation on who is with him in the promo. In the comic book series, Tyreese is traveling with his daughter (Julie) and her boyfriend (Chris). We’re assuming those are two of the survivors he’s with. The other female is either bitten or wounded. Stay tuned for the upcoming episode 308 of the hit AMC’s action-drama series The Walking Dead.
