Jon Bernthal‘s character on AMC’s The Walking Dead may be dead, or returning as a memory, however the actor recently got swamped with new projects. Bernthal’s portrayal of Shane Walsh caught the attention of many important directors and performers. In addition to having the leading role in a new TNT TV show ‘L.A. Noir‘ directed by Frank Darabont (The Mist, The Walking Dead).
Robert De Niro in Being Flynn
The actor is set to appear in The Wolf on Wall Street directed by Martin Scorsese which is expected to arrive in theaters next year. Bernthal is also credited for a part in Summit’s upcoming film SNITCH with Dwayne Johnson. Recently the zombie-slayer actor has another interesting role lined up, he will be playing the son of Robert De Niro‘s character in Grudge Match.
Grudge Match is a film directed by Peter Segal (Get Smart), which stars Robert De Niro , 69, and Sylvester Stallone as two retired fighters who get back into the ring for one last match to settle an old score. The very idea of seeing the Raging Bull exchanging blows with the Rocky star spells great potential. It will be interesting to see what kind of shape both men are in when they step into the ring. Stallone, 66, has already changed his physique in Expendables 1 and 2.
It appears that Bernthal’s character will bring an additional dose of tension. Variety reports that the Walking Dead star has already signed on to play De Niro’s son, “who is conflicted about training the estranged father he has resented for years.” In addition to De Niro and Stallone, Kim Basinger is also a member of this amazing cast of actors.
While attending a press conferences for the film Chinese Zodiac (CZ12), action star Jackie Chan mentioned that Sylvester Stallone gave him a role in The Expendables 3. According to Chan, his role will be more than a mere cameo. Chan explained:
“Sly had invited me to be in Expendables 2, but I was too busy filming CZ12 and couldn’t make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes.”
Jackie Chan recruited for The Expendables 3
There’s still no official word on what role will Jackie portray in The Expendables 3. Ethan Anderton at First Showing noted that Chan asked Stallone if the third film would be a “buddy-buddy movie,” which it apparently is. Anderton assumed this could mean that Jackie Chan could be some sort of sidekick, but that’s just his speculation for now.
Stallone has also expressed interest in working with Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes, there are rumours about Nicolas Cage possible involvement in the third action-packed film.
Sylvester Stallone informed Deadline that he “has no knowledge of Nicolas Cage joining Expendables 3.” Sly also added that any reports that Nicolas Cage was in negotiations for the film are false. However this does not rule out Cage in Expendables 3, but he’s no longer a confirmed member of the mercenary team.
Nicolas Cage is not confirmed for Expendables 3
A while back, Sly told the Spanish newspaper El País about the upcoming film of his franchise that he had high hopes to get on the set Harrison Ford, Mickey Rourke and Wesley Snipes.
I’m not crazy of seeing Cage in the Expendables 3, it would be cool, but there are other actors who could join this action franchise, lets not forget about Michael Biehn a.k.a. Duane ‘Hicks’ (Aliens), Kyle Reese (The Terminator). Let’s see whats in store for the not so Expendables movies that we have come to really enjoy.
During an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País, Sylvester Stallone confirmed that Nicolas Cage would be in the third film of the franchise. Sly was also hopeful for Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, and the return of Mickey Rourke. (Rourke turned down his appearance in The Expendables 2 to do Seven Psychopaths).
Nic Cage on The Expendables 3
In the words of action-star Sylvester Stallone, The Film Stage posted this key excerpt from the interview, “We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can get Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenziness, which are inherent to the saga. I can not guarantee if it will be the last. In the beginning there were going to be only two films, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun to the people, we can continue playing The Expendables. For now we are not as expendables as it should and as some critics want.”
So far there are no words on what Cage’s character will be like, lets hope it combines all the characters he’s played, along with all weapons he uses bear his visage in some way.
‘Will we see Cage swinging a chain with a mad-like stare? Let’s hope so.’
