Why Making a Batman/Superman Movie is a Bad Idea

A few days ago Warner Bros. rocked Comic Con when they announced a Batman/Superman movie is in production and is due to be out in 2015. Fans of both superheroes have been cheering all over the world ever since the announcement was made and we are all impatiently waiting to see the showdown between DC’s two most popular heroes. The last time we saw the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight being bid against each other was in Frank Miller’s “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns” and that wasn’t really the mainstream Batman most people know and love (it was an old Batman coming out of retirement). It was only logical for Batman to win since he is the more popular of the two. The Caped Crusader beats the Kryptonian also in terms of gross revenue generated by their latest respective movies, as well. All of this is to say that if Batman and Superman meet on the big screen, then The Detective will probably win. I don’t know how well they will execute the idea, but I think now is not the time for such a movie and I will explain why.

Superman VS Batman

The Dark Knight Trilogy

Lets face it – Christopher Nolan‘s “Dark Knight” trilogy is considered by many to be the best comic book movies ever made. Even though “The Dark Knight Rises” had many plot holes and was a huge letdown compared to the “Dark Knight”, the trilogy is revered by both comic book fans and people who have never held a Batman comics in their life. The only problem is that the trilogy was as loosely based on the comics as “I, Robot” was loosely based on Asimov’s short stories. Don’t get me wrong, they are good movies, but they are not comic book movies. It’s hard to say they are even in the DC Universe. If you think I’m wrong, then imagine Batman from Nolan’s trilogy into the same universe as Superman from “The Man of Steel”. You can’t, can you? That’s because they have nothing in common. Nolan’s version of The Caped Crusader destroyed his chances of being seamlessly featured in any sort of movie if it’s even remotely related to the DC Universe.

DC vs. Marvel

Another problem is that DC didn’t manage to their job of bringing their characters to the big screen in the same way Marvel did. Think about it – “Iron Man”, “The Incredible Hulk”, “Captain America”, “Thor”, “Iron Man 2” – all of them foreshadowed “The Avengers” and all of them were obviously in the same universe with the same rules and even looked alike. DC, however, has done nothing of the sort – “The Dark Knight” trilogy had nothing to do with the comics, let alone The Justice League, “The Man of Steel” and “Green Lantern” have pretty much nothing in common, and not to mention the fact that we are nowhere near Wonder Woman, Flash or Aquaman movies. For them to make a Batman/Superman movie right now with the current state of affairs is a rash decision, to say the least. There’s going to be so much that won’t make any sense. Before you make a crossover, you have to establish the characters (like Marvel did)– one Superman movie and technically zero Batman movies is just not enough. In my opinion, DC are chasing Marvel and are making huge mistakes in doing so. I hope I’m wrong about this because if I’m right, this movie will be one of the biggest disappointments of the decade.

‘Justice League’ Will Depend on ‘Man of Steel’ Sucess

In the recent 7 years, remakes and comic based movies has centered the blockbuster list. It’s no surprise that movies or tv shows based on superheros has topped the ratings as well as the box office. Productions like The Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, X-men, Batman demand a high investment but with the difference that they assure high profits.

Jeff Robinov – President of Warner Bros.

There is also the issue that the company responsible for this trend is Marvel Comics. A mother project like The Avengers which linked 4 other families of film productions and a rumor of a SHIELD Tv Show has actually build a reputation of excellency. Not all the companies can do that and DC Comics/ Warner Bros have to pay the price for previous projects.

It is known that there are the intentions for producing a Justice League Project, in which superheros like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and The Green Lantern will be summoned. This will happen if ‘Man of Steel’ soar its way off into theaters on June, 2013 according to Warner Bros President Jeff Robinov.

Failed projects like ‘The Green Lantern‘ in 2009 and starred by Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively as well as ‘Superman Returns‘ in 2006 starring Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth, have put the producers to be extremely careful with Superman upcoming remake.

Producers, critics and audience will have an eye on June,2013 because if ‘Man of Steel‘ doesn’t work there will be no Justice League in 2015.

Could this be the Roster for the Justice League Movie?

Justice League movie is Warner Bros. most biggest project, when Darkseid was revealed as the villain of the film lots of rumors began to circulate. Recently two stories started to gain weight in the media and social networks, we are talking about the villain and the plot of the film. However Warner Bros. has not confirmed any of this.

Justice League

Justice League

Here are the details regarding the characters and the team for the film, which were spread by Cosmic Book News.

Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character. (actor: Henry Cavill apparently)
Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn’t really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written. (actor: unknown)
Wonder Woman: She has only been in man’s world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie. (actress: unknown)
Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold’s character from the Green Lantern movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone. (actor: Ryan Reynolds – rumored)
Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious. (actor: unknown)
Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign. (actor: unknown)
Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film. (actor: unknown)
• There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.
Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance. (actor: unknown)
Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo. (actor: unknown)
Darkseid‘s Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.

Most of these are already a given for the individual characters and this is the first that we’re hearing of Aquaman and Martian Manhunter appearing in the big screen. Treat these words as a rumor for now the only ones sure to appear are Batman and Superman. Time will tell.

So far there is no director currently attached to the film, but Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is writing the script.

Henry Cavill and Ryan Reynolds May Return in Justice League?

The 2015 is already shaping up to be an epic year, with Marvel‘s Sequel The Avengers 2 and DC’s Justice League tentatively set to arrive that summer. Little has been confirmed for Justice League, which is being written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad). A new report has surfaced today that reveals which superheroes will be present in this massive ensemble, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. Everything indicates that Henry Cavill and Ryan Reynolds may reprise their roles as the Man of Steel and Green Lantern.

Nothing has been said about the presence of Christian Bale as Batman, Warner Bros still needs a Batman, whether Batman’s alter-ego is Bruce Wayne or is a willing stand-in.

Official Trailer of Superman Man of Steel

Today the full length of Superman Man of Steel trailer was finally released. This trailer promises a lot, for the first time we see a differente aspect of Superman and how he copes with his powers while living as a mere Kansas boy. After seeing this movie, I believe Zack Snyder is attempting to make Man of Steel as a character movie without dismissing the power that comes with Superman.

Next summer, “Man of Steel” is coming to the big screen. The film is from director Zack Snyder and producers Charles Roven, Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises) from a story by Goyer & Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics.

Superman ‘Man of Steel’ stars Henry Cavill (Superman/ Clark Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Lawrence Fishburne (Perry White), Antje Troue (Faora/ Zod’s wife), Jadin Gould (Lana Lang).

Amy Adams: Henry Cavill is Superman and Zod is Terrifying

Amy Adams, the new Lois Lane said that his co-star Michael Shannon’s portrayal of General Zod is terrifying, Adams added, “I only had a couple of scenes with him.”

According to Adams, Henry Cavill is not just acting like Superman, he is Superman. Adams who was awed by Cavill’s performance made this statement first.

Whenever I had to look into his eyes I would just start giggling. I was like ‘Oh I gotta stop this,” she said.
