Sean Bean Goes to Space in Jupiter Ascending

Famous actor Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) signed to star in Lana and Andy Wachowski’s upcoming film, Jupiter Ascending were he’ll portray “a Han Solo-type” of character. The Wachowski’s film is about galaxies, a bounty hunter (Tatum), a toilet-scrubbing Russian immigrant (Kunis), and DNA-cloning. On the other hand, Bean will play Stinger, a space-rogue in a story that takes place in a time where humans are at the lowest point of the evolutionary ladder. This events follow a woman who has been target for assassination by the Queen of the Universe.

Here’s a basic synopsis of the Wachowki’s project:

Imagine a universe in which human beings are just the Cro-Magnons, or even the Australopithecines, of what beings can ultimately go on to become in the galaxy. It’s a return to form for [the Wachowskis], because these higher forms of life are watching us from other, albeit this time non-meta worlds, but actual, other worlds, as in planets and moons.

It’s supposed to be the first entry in a trilogy, centers on an unlikely (and as with The Matrix, ultimately reluctant) heroine: A recent Russian immigrant — played by actual Ukrainian immigrant Mila Kunis — who is busily scrubbing toilets for a living. Unbeknownst to her, she actually possesses the same perfect genetic makeup as the Queen of the Universe and is therefore a threat to her otherwise immortal rule.

These evolved beings fall into various different groups, all of which share some human DNA but who have become evolved after being bred with animal DNA to heighten their best characteristics — e.g., soldiers getting their fearlessness, strength, and a pack mentality from wolves; workers getting their industriousness and reputation for diligence from bees.

Pretty soon, a bounty hunter of the evolved-being type is dispatched to dispose of the Cleaning Lady with the Great Pair of Nucloetides, but, as you’d expect with a Matrix re-dux, they fall in love. And for having fallen for his target, the bounty hunter — who we hear will be played by Channing Tatum — well, let’s just say that things get messy after that, because his employers take a-less-than-enlightened-being reaction to his decision to protect rather than kill her.”

Let’s hope that we see Bean’s character reach the end of this upcoming film-trilogy…

First, there was the Lucasfilm sale to Disney Studios, then the announcement of new ‘Star Wars’ projects, after that the confirmation of the possible return of Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Samuel L. Jackson in the new projects as their origina characters and finally now there is a director confirmed for the project, J.J. Abrams.

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Director J.J. Abrams

This casting has confused the fans. Meanwhile Abrams fans remain happy for a new project of their mentor, Star Wars fans doubt if Abrams and Disney Studios would respect George Lucas ideology. Abrams is best known for trying to revive and remake every sci-fi series. He was ‘Star Trek’ director and his currently post-producing the sequel Star Trek 2: Into the Darkness. He has also been related to TV industry. He directed two pilots of cult series ‘Lost’.

Among his future projects are Star Trek 3 and Mission Impossible 5, and after that he will direct Star Wars Episode VII, that’s the reason why he didn’t confirmed the film release date for 2015. In a few lines, we can agree he is a professional with tons of work and maybe all of them will be blockbusters. So why a really busy director could say ‘Yes’ to a project with so much responsibility and with even more work than others?

Kathleen Kennedy, the current President of Lucasfilm and brandmanager of ‘Star Wars’ franchise explain the reasons why J.J. Abrams said “Yes” to the job.

“J.J. was flipping out when he found out that Michael and Larry were on the movie already and he was just on the ceiling when I walked out the door.Kennedy stated exposing that the main reason for Abrams acceptance was the involvement of screenwriter Michael Arndt and producer Lawrence Kasdan.

Why Kennedy chose Abrams for the production of Episode VII? She expressed that after a long talk about how ‘Star Wars‘ influence an entire generation, how George Lucas vision push the project and that now the have the opportunity to carry that legacy influence in J.J. Abrams fan boy side of him, making him have a point of view that could relate to what the fans are expecting.

Finally, Kennedy said “Our goal is to move as quickly as we can, and we’ll see what happens.”

Zack Snyder is Not Developing any Star Wars Project

According to Zack Snyder‘s rep, the director is not working in any project that involves the Star Wars universe. At least, not right now.

The filmmaker’s rep has issued a statement dismissing a Monday report that originated in the New York Magazine’s Vulture blog, which claimed that the “300” and “Watchmen” director was preparing a “Seven Samurai” (1954) – inspired “Star Wars” spinoff. Not only is that report not true, the rep said, but Snyder won’t be directing any of the planned films in the franchise’s final trilogy.

However in an exclusive statement to THR, Snyder’s rep says, “While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new ‘Star Wars.’ He is currently in post on his two films, ‘Man of Steel‘ and ’300: Battle of Artemisia.’

When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in late 2012. The studio quickly announced their plans for a final “Star Wars” trilogy – consisting of “Episode VII,” “Episode VIII” and “Episode IX”. The studio is in the process of choosing a director/ or directors the make those chapters happen.

So far Michael Arndt, the Oscar-winning director of “Little Miss Sunshine,” who also wrote “Toy Story 3,” “Brave” and the upcoming Louisiana-shot sci-fi film “Oblivion” with Tom Cruise, has been brought on as a screenwriter.

Is Zack Snyder Working in a Star Wars Samurai Story?

Zack Snyder, earned world-wide renown after Dawn of the Dead (2004) and 300 (2006), currently the director is busyin finishing filming the DC Universe greatest superhero Superman Man of Steel has recently revealed that he’ll move to the Star Wars universe soon after. The director of Watchmen won’t be directing Star Wars Episode VII, Vulture reports he’s quietly developing a stand aolone Star Wars film inspired by Akira Kurosawa‘s Seven Samurais. Snyder’s film would feature a group of Jedi warriors going on a mission.

The movie takes place, post-Return of the Jedi. This is the third name rumored to be working on a Star Wars film that is not one of the tradional stories, mainly Episode VII. Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan have also been rumored to be working on other Star Wars projects. So far there is still no director for Episode VII.

Obviously LucasFilm wouldn’t confirm to Vulture if the Snyder news are true, but the site wouldn’t report this unless they had a pretty good source. Disney CEO, Bob Iger did say they wanted to release a new Star Wars film every two years after Episode VII, and it seems like the depth of that statement is still far from being understood.

Interestingly enough in Star Wars Episode IV, Obi-Wan Kenobi described the Jedi order as almost samurai type warriors with their lightsabers. Adding that George Lucas has always acknowledged the Kurosawa influence on Star Wars, too. Is not that far fetched that the Snyder’s news is real… once again, time will tell.
