Another Comic Character Gets Cast in AMC’s The Walking Dead

This is The Walking Dead Monday, first Robert Kirkman along with AMC officially announced a Spin-off of the series, which will focus on an entirely new story with unique characters, not from the comic book. Kirkman has already expanded his creation to video games, toys and more.

Now “AMC announced today that the network is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to its original drama series The Walking Dead, which premiered on AMC in October of 2010. The Walking Dead is currently the #1 show on television among adults 18-49. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are on board as executive producers, with AMC Studios set to produce. The companion series has a target on-air date of 2015.”

Kirkman said that “after 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. (…) The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

*Spoiler Warning: Do not continue reading if you want to avoid TV/comic book spoilers*

When the TV show was first announced, fans of the comic book series have been eager to see Tyreese in the small screen. In the comic he joins Rick’s group before the events of the prison. In the series the character has yet to made his debut, he will appear on the next episode, which is the mid-season-finale. So instead of meeting up before the prison, Tyreese and his group seem to have found the prison on their own.

Chad Coleman from The Wire was confirmed for the role of Tyreese , but we don’t have confirmation on who is with him in the promo. In the comic book series, Tyreese is traveling with his daughter (Julie) and her boyfriend (Chris). We’re assuming those are two of the survivors he’s with. The other female is either bitten or wounded. Stay tuned for the upcoming episode 308 of the hit AMC’s action-drama series The Walking Dead.

TV Line recently informed that actor Chad Coleman will join the cast of The Walking Dead as Tyreese. Coleman is best known for his role as Dennis “Cutty” Wise on The Wire and providing the voice for ‘Coach’ in Left4Dead 2.

While in the comics, Tyreese is a prominent member of the survivors through their tenure in the prison, and was additionally a central character within the series. Following the death of Shane, he filled the role of Rick’s right-hand man. He was portrayed as a strong and charismatic survivor who often acted as a leader. Tyreese revealed himself to be a one-time NFL pro football player in the late 1990′s. In the zombie apocalypse he specializes in blunt weapons against the undead, carrying his trusty hammer everywhere he went, but he remained as a terrible marksman.

MAJOR SPOILER:

The character’s arrival is rumored to be in this season’s eighth episode in the upcoming Dec. 2 fall finale, after Coleman was spotted on the Woodbury set in Senoia, Georgia. This is supposed to occur when Rick prepares to do battle with David Morrissey’s Governor.
