Jon Bernthal says he still enjoys settling on the couch on Sundays to watch the latest installment of the famous zombie series The Walking Dead. Bernthal character Shane Walsh, went mad and ended up being killed by his best friend, Rick Grimes during season 2 episode ‘Better Angels’.
According to Bernthal watching the show, where he played deputy Shane Walsh, gives him a moment of down-time for him, who these days is juggling his time with TNT’s television series “L.A. Noir” directed by Frank Darabont (The Mist), the man responsible for the first season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”.
The famous actor is also filming of “The Wolf of Wall Street,” a Martin Scorsese film about Wall Street corruption, also starring Jonah Hill (21 Jump Street), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) and Matthew McConaughey (Reign of Fire).
Bernthal sadi to The Associated Press he’s trilled to be working with Scorsese.
“He’s always been one of my favorite filmmakers, the guy I’ve always dreamed of working with,” he said. “It’s a really cool cast and based on a true story, so it’s been a really exciting project.”
Bernthal has also finished filming, “Snitch,” which will be released in theaters in February 2013. The movie, stars Dwayne Johnson, as a father who goes undercover for the DEA when his son is imprisoned after being set up in a drug deal.
The really great news of Benthal is the February arrival of the newest member of his family. He and his wife, Erin Angle, are expecting their second child. While Bernthal says he’d like to find out the sex of the baby-on-the-way, his wife wants to be surprised.
“She calls the shots in that department, so we won’t be finding out until February,” he said with a laugh. The couple has a son, Henry, who is 15 months old.
Currently Jon Bernthal is heading to New Orleans this weekend to greet fans of “The Walking Dead” at the Wizard World Comic Con conference. His character Shane Walsh went mad and was killed last season, returned as a zombie and was killed again.
“I’m very much still watching it,” he said. “I’m still a fan.”
Andrew Lincoln recently talked about having Jon around in the mid-season finale episode, where he appears as Rick’s hallucination of Shane. “He’s my brother and it was so strange seeing him there — and yet, so familiar. And it was very moving. He came back and was on his way to doing the Scorsese movie [The Wolf of Wall Street]. I could see him and he was being very respectful and standing back and letting us do our thing and not interfering and just watching. And I could see him itching to go so I said, “Jon, I need to run lines for this.” And he came on set and he wasn’t supposed to be working that night but suddenly he just said, “Right. I’m just coming. I’m coming back. I can’t not work.” So he got changed and we started acting the scene. He was only supposed to shoot the day afterwards.
With a laugh Lincoln said, “Only in my job can I keep killing my friend. This is the third time I’ve killed Jon. Well, it’s actually the second time, but I like to think of the other one as a family killing, via my son. Only in this crazy job can I still keep bringing people back form the dead in my imagination — and shoot them again.”
