Christoph Waltz: 2 Oscars in 4 Years

Being Best Director, Actor, Actress and Picture the most expected categories from the audience, it is understood that Oscars Ceremony administration present those awards at the end of the event. But for equilibrating and relieving the stress of the three hour ceremony some equally hoped awards are presented at the very beginning.

Christoph Waltz – Oscar 2013 Best Supporting Actor

The Oscar for Best Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role gives a recognition to that element of the movie that wasn’t the leading role but every time it appeared on screen it stole the scene. It usually the role falls on the villain of the movie, or on the sidekick/best friend of the main character or that individual that represents a comic relief on the dramatic film.

In 4 years, Austrian-German Actor Christoph Waltz has collected two Oscars for his roles inInglourious Basterds’ and ‘Django Unchained. Both awards were in the Best Supporting Actor and both by Quentin Tarantino films. On ‘Inglourious Basterds’ Waltz portrays the villain of the film, Col. Hans Landa, meanwhile on ‘Django Unchained‘ he is Jamie Foxx Master who helps him to save Django’s wife, Dr. King Schultz.

Christoph Waltz at his 56 years old has become a part of the promise of the new decade of actors, whose determination and quality will get them any award they be nominated.

A German Television Star since his 20s, Waltz entered the American market by the hand of Quentin Tarantino, and by the time he has been part of at least 5 blockbusters deals.

Christoph Waltz excellency has been proofed so far that he is even being considered for ‘Reykjavik‘, a biopic project will put him in the leading role of the former President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, along side actor Michael Douglas as President of the United States, Ronald Reagan.

Fun Fact: Since Christoph Waltz wan his Oscar for Inglourious Basters in 2009, the following Academy Award winners for Best Supporting Actor were actors whose names began with prefix ‘Christ’. Christian Bale for The Fighter (2010), Christopher Plummer for Beginners (2011) and Christoph Waltz for Django Unchained (2012).

Daniel Day Lewis: The Best Actor With The Most Oscars

The Academy Awards has always determined a high level of prestige among the filmmaking industry. Being awarded with an Oscar change completely your resume in the movie market. The movie with the most awards get immediately labeled as excellent, as well happen to the actors.

Daniel Day Lewis – Oscar for Best Actor – Lincoln (2012)

On Sunday, February 24th, Irish Actor Daniel Day Lewis became the actor with the most Oscars received in the category for Best Actor, for his work as 16th President of the United Stated, Abraham Lincoln in the biopic ‘Lincoln’.

Day Lewis has been nominated five times in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role in which he has wan three. His first Oscar was in 1990 for the movie “My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown” and the second one, was five years ago in 2008 for his role as a California oilman in the movie “There will be blood”.  For his third award he had to beat fellow nominees: Bradley Cooper, Joaquin Phoenix, Denzel Washington and Hugh Jackman.

Reading Daniel Day Lewis filmography, we can conclude due to the short list of movies (comparing with fellow actors) he has lead that an exhausting procedure of review is held when choosing a new project. On the list of movies, I couldn’t find anything related to commercial nor low scrip quality.Maybe the only movie that can be labeled as a failure even though watching the trailer looks promising, is ‘Nine‘ with actresses Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, among others. Who could ever thought that a movie whose cast was contained by six Academy Award Winners produce a movie with such a lousy result.

Seth MacFarlane Won’t Host The Oscars Again

Almost 48 hours since the Oscars 2013 ceremony took place in Los Angeles and the critics slaughter against host Seth MacFarlane has continued in the social networks. Even though the ratings has been the greatest in the past three years, the Creator of Family Guy has been labeled as sexist, racist and even anti-semitic.

With these ratings results, the Academy might be thinking about repeating the host for 2014, unless the host rejects the offer. Unfortunately, we won’t have the opportunity to know if this could have happened. About nine hours ago, Seth MacFarlane replied and quote the following tweet:

Seth MacFarlane Tweeting About Not Returning as Oscar Host.

According to previous statements, MacFarlane expressed feeling exhausted and overworked. Here in They Need News we publish the article about the upcoming Family Guy Movie. MacFarlane is the creator of Tv Show ‘Family guy’ and co-creator of ‘American Dad‘ and ‘The Cleveland Show‘.

There Has Been 6 Ties in the Oscars History

Writing this brief article, my modesty won’t make me company. On Sunday while watching the Oscars 2013 and live tweeting everything about it, many in the Twitter universe gasp for a second after Mark Wahlberg accompanied by TED said the word “TIE” for the Best Sound Editing Award.

Barbra Streisand and Katherine Hepburn won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1969.

I have to be honest that I have studied the Oscars for a very long time. I know about the naked man running during live ceremony, about the scandal when a native american woman receive the Oscar in behalf of Marlon Brando and the reactions towards Vanessa Redgrave political speech when she won Oscar for best actress in a supporting role for her role in Julia (1977).

So when Wahlberg announced the tie, I thought “It is possible but it has been a while.

It has been 18 years since the last tie took place in the Academy Awards. Four of the six occasions has occurred in technical categories.

  • 1949: “A Chance to Live” and “So Much for So Little” tied for Best Documentary Short.
  • 1986: “Artie Shaw: Time Is All You’ve Got” and “ Down and Out in America” tied for Best Documentary Feature.
  • 1995: Franz Kafka’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Trevor” tied for Best Live-Action Short.
  • 2013: “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Skyfall” tied for the Best Sound Editing.

In the two remaining scenerarios, the ties have taken place in the categories for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Leading Role.

  • 1931-32, when Fredric March and Wallace Beery tied for Best Actor for “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” and “The Champ.
  • 1968: Barbra Streisand and Katherine Hepburn tied for Best Actress for “Funny Girl” and “The Lion in Winter,” respectively.

Note: This has been Barbra Streisand only Oscar for his work as an actress. She has a second Oscar for Best Music, Original Song  for her movie “A Star is Born” next to Kris Kristofferson. In the ceremony of 1969, Katherine Hepburn didn’t attend to the Oscars so Barbra could give her acceptance speech without sharing the mic..almost.

Despite Critics, Seth MacFarlane Was Oscar Ratings Gold

With an event as big as the Oscars, it is expected for the day after to read the reception about the ceremony. Browsing different medias like New York Times or social networks like Twitter, Seth MacFarlane hosting the Oscars 2013 was described as retrograde, ugly, sexist, racist and even child offensive. My question is: Do I have such a lower bar of good taste or the world has become pretty sensitive?

Seth MacFarlane, host of The Oscars 2013.

Even though the negative reviews MacFarlane has received in the past 24 hours, his duty as host has benefit the ceremony with the highest ratings in the past 3 years, beating hosts like: Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin (2010), James Franco and Anne Hathaway (2011) and Billy Crystal (2012).

It may be that the public that were out of ‘Family Guy‘ market range were not entertained by MacFarlane labour. Dealing with the fact that the main theme of the ceremony were Hollywood greatest musicals or movies greatest music themes, becomes quite a challenge for entertaining the non-loving musical majority of the audience.

According to the rating reports, Oscars Ceremony 2013 raise up 20% in the 18-49 audience, in comparison with last year’s reports. A total of 40.3 million viewers chose the Award Ceremony, making 3% more than last year ceremony.
