Werner Herzog is assemblying a terrific cast of actors for his upcoming period drama called Queen of the Desert, Herzog wrote the film as well.
Jude Law will star opposite to Naomi Watts (21 Grams) and Robert Pattinson (Water for Elephants) in the biopic of Gertrude Bell, which is described as the female Lawrence of Arabia.
Naomi Watts leads the film as Gertrude Bell and Robert Pattinson portrays Colonel T.E. Lawrence, otherwise known as Lawrence of Arabia. Bell -much like Lawrence- was an explorer, writer, archeologist and attaché for the British Empire, she is credited with helping to catalyze the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th century. This was due to her travels in Minor Asia, Mesopotamia, Greater Syria and Arabia. Along with T.E. Lawrence, Bell aided in establishing the Hashemite dynasties, in what is today Jordan, and Iraq.
The film is being financed by Nick Raslan, via his Palmyra Films Banner along with Cassian Elwes and Michael Benoraya (Picture).
“It is a great opportunity to be working with such acclaimed talent on such an important project. We look forward to seeing Werner Herzog make this exciting piece of history come alive for a global audience,” Sierra/Affinity CEO Jude Law said.
The film is scheduled to start shooting in Morocco in March 2013.
