Here’s the second official trailer of Killing Them Softly, an American crime drama, directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper and The Assassination of Jesse James) with Brad Pitt (Twelve Monkeys) as the hitman protagonist of the film. The story is based on the 1974 novel Cogan’s Trade by George V. Higgins. The movie premiered in competition for the Palme d’Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, receiving positive early reviews.
The story takes us in a ride with hitman Jackie Cogan (Pitt), who is tracking down two people who ripped off his boss’s high-stakes poker tournament. You don’t mess with those guys. After the heist Brad Pitt is sent to restore order after three dumb guys rob a Mob protected card game, causing the local criminal economy to collapse. Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) also stars in the film as the hustler running the poker game, Richard Jenkins (Burn After Reading) plays a lawyer with inside information, James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) portrays a washed up alcoholic hitman, Vincent Curatola (Frame of Mind) plays a middle-aged prison release seeking revenge, and Sam Rockwell (Iron Man 2) also appears in the movie.
Killing Them Softly was scheduled to be released on September 21, 2012, however the US release date was moved to November 30, 2012 to avoid competition from The Master and improve the movie’s chance of awards success.
